COVID-19 ASSISTANCE FOR HIDALGO COUNTY COLONIAS
Hidalgo County, in partnership with the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) and Proyecto Azteca, is pleased to offer a one-time emergency assistance through the Emergency Assistance – Self-Help Center (E-SHC) Program for Hidalgo County colonia residents whose income has been significantly reduced as a result of COVID-19 public health restrictions.
Who is Eligible?

E-SHC funds are available to assist low-income colonia households whose income has been significantly reduced as a result of COVID-19 public health restrictions.

Households eligible to receive E-SHC assistance must meet all of the following requirements as certified by the head of household during the application process:

Residence in an eligible colonia community (see link below for list of colonias);

Total family income for the next 12 months equal to or less than HUD’s Very Low-Income threshold: https://huduser.gov/portal/datasets/il/il19/Section8-IncomeLimits-FY19.pdf; and
-
Income significantly reduced as a result of COVID-19 public health restrictions.
Assistance is NOT immediate. Applying does NOT guarantee that assistance will be received. Requirements must be met, but all applications and notes are kept in case program guidelines change.
It is important to complete the application to the best of your ability. Please submit information about loss or reduction of income, current bills for the utilities you are requesting assistance for and please contact us if you have questions.
What Can I Request?

Assistance with up to three months of the following expenses:

Mortgage expenses

Utility expenses
-
Assistance for Food and Other Needs

Maximum of $2,000 in grant funds per residential unit

Funds will be provided directly to service providers (mortgage lenders, utility services, etc).
